The Eagles performed on the first day of the two-day festival. Also on the bill were Gram Parsons (with Emmylou Harris) and Lester Flatt.

The review of the Eagles’ set is difficult to read in the article below. I tried to decipher as much of it as possible.

“The Eagles open the with a brief acapella and then launch right their biggest hit, ‘Take It Easy.’

“They then performed a series of softer numbers from their new album including ‘Doolin Dalton,’ ‘Desperado,’ and ‘Bitter Creek.’

“The Eagles possess a distinguishing sense of versatility. All five members of the group: guitarists Glenn Frey (Detroit) and Bernie Leadon, bassist Randy Meisner, drummer Don Henley handle lead vocals admirably. Frey doubled on harmonica and piano. Leadon does occasional work on the banjo. The group’s harmonies show considerable polish.

“The Eagles shifted gears in the middle of their set and got down to power rock and roll…

“Good tight hard rock is mighty hard to find these days, but the Eagles have the medium down as good as anybody is ever going to. The fact that their softer stuff is of even higher caliber should guarantes the Eagles considerable success in the near future. They are easily the best rock group Pop Entertainment has brought to campus this year.”
