The Eagles played the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center (aka BJCC Coliseum) in Birmingham, AL. Andrew Gold opened.
According to the review, Randy gave a “stunning rendition” of “Take It To The Limit.”
Randy played a black Hagstrom bass. A switch from his usual Rickenbacker 4001, which was his go-to bass on the 1977 Hotel California tour. See more of Randy’s basses here.

Saw this show and l see it was 4 days after the blow up in Knoxville, Tennessee when Randy refused to sing, take it to the limit, was glad to see the ride up that he did it very well that night, and I remember that he did, not knowing that he couldn’t wait for the tour to end so he could quit. When me and my friend got there, we did not have tickets, we found a scalper with 11th row seats for $20 apiece, which was expensive back in the day, but we were glad to pay it and we actually worked our way right up to the barricade right in front of the stage where Don Felder was playing his steel guitar and we threw him a joint that had blonde Lebanese hash in it lol👌✌️
Great story. Just to clarify. Randy never refused to sing “Take It To The Limit.” He performed it in Knoxville and for the rest of the tour.
