Shortly before his departure from the Eagles, Randy Meisner was interviewed by Lou O’Neill, Jr. of the New York Post. This very brief interview was conducted over the phone from Greensboro, North Carolina where the Eagles were performing at the Coliseum on June 27th, 1977. This was one day before the infamous concert in Knoxville, where Randy argued with Glenn Frey, thus sparking his decision to leave the band at the end of the tour on July 9th, 1977. However, at the time of this article, Randy had only positive things to say about the band and their rapport. The interview, published on July 15th, 1977, was possibly his last as a member of the Eagles.

The Eagles in Greensboro, NC, June 27, 1977

There are several errors to point out. In the second paragraph, Randy said he moved to L.A. and that’s where he met “the fellows.” The author then states that the fellows were: Glenn Frey, Don Felder, Don Henley, and Joe Walsh. This is misleading in a number of ways, but especially since the original Eagles did not include Don Felder and Joe Walsh. Later, Randy was asked about his children. His response is a misprint and should have read: “I have a boy who’s 13 (Dana) and two little twins.” The photo that accompanied the article, taken at Nassau Coliseum, shows Randy and Glenn Frey, not Don Felder.

The interview ends at the first set of red asterisks (*****), then picks up again (briefly) with the second set of red asterisks in the second to last column.

New York Post, July 15th, 1977:

To my knowledge, Randy only gave two other lone interviews while he was a member of the Eagles. The first was in Beat Instrumental in 1973. Then another with his hometown paper, the Scottsbluff Star-Herald, in 1975. Read them below:
