The Eagles played at the New Haven Coliseum (aka Veterans Memorial Coliseum) in New Haven, CT, on March 26th, 1977. Listen to an audience recording, see rare photos, and more below.

The New Haven concert, with Jimmy Buffett as the opener, was part of the first leg of the Eagles’ 1977 Hotel California tour. It came only five days after the now-iconic Capital Centre concerts in Landover, MD.

Local radio station WAVZ gave away a backstage pass to the concert. The winner was Lynne Nicolari, who met the band backstage before the show and posed for photos.

  1. Thank you Jessica for another great article, pictures and music! I love hearing these recordings of live performances . And as always Randy’s was superb!!!

  2. I was at this show. For the opener, Jimmy Buffett walked out on stage wearing a New Haven Nighthawks hockey jersey and said that if the team didn’t give him one, he would have stolen it. Jimmy had just released the “Changes in Attitude . . .” album and not yet made it big. I remember he opened with “Changes in Latitude . . . ” It was a great opening number. I also remember him doing a rocker called “Sail Away” which was excellent. I don’t recall him doing “Margaritaville.” The Eagles were incredible. They fit so well in the old barn in New Haven – only 10,000 seats which felt like a nice living room. The acoustics were excellent. The set list above is correct as to the songs but not in that order. The last song before the encores was “Witchy Woman.” The encores were “James Dean”, “Best of My Love” and “Take It Easy” in that order. During the last verse of “Take it Easy”, the house lights were turned on and people were dancing and rocking out.

    1. Thanks. Those were there usual encore numbers in 1977. It was the first tour that “Take It Easy” became an encore. A lot of audience recordings, like the one in New Haven, get edited, so the setlist doesn’t always match the actual order of songs.
