The Drivin’ Dynamics celebrated their 40th anniversary during the annual Oregon Trail Days in Gering, Nebraska on July 13-14, 2001. The weekend celebrations included jam sessions with former band members, plus a chili cookoff. Randy attended the Friday night festivities, but was unable to stay for the entire weekend, most likely due to a benefit his band, the World Classic Rockers, were participating in that Sunday in Ventura, CA. In 1961, Randy, along with John Ankeny, Larry Soto, and Richard Rohnke, founded The Dynamics in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Many thanks to the Dynamics’ former keyboard player, Steve Cassells, for providing the following photos of the Friday night jam session at the Oregon Trail Lounge in Gering on July 13th, 2001. The Dynamics played the “OT” many times in their early days. Randy also played there with his band, the Silverados, in 1983.

Past and (then) current members of the Drivin’ Dynamics pose for a photo: Randy is in back row, second from left. To his left, in the Nebraska shirt, is Steve Cassells, John Ankeny (white shirt), Steve Rothenberger, and Larry Soto on the end (holding guitar).
At far left, John Ankeny, the original drummer for the Dynamics, talks to Randy between songs. Steve Cassells in the middle.
